Jericho is the newest song from New Orleans based musician and producer ÌFÉ. The song, featuring New Orleans rapper Charm Taylor is the first single off of a forthcoming EP from ÌFÉ titled Beat The System. Jericho, a political and musical tribute to the African deity Shangó imagines a world were systematically and historically oppressed, disenfranchised, and often terrorized peoples finally see a bit of real life justice as Charm and ÌFÉ implore the Yoruban god of music and dance to fall on his enemies with fire and lightning. In a moment where Black lives and legacy seem to be continuously undervalued and distorted the song cries out for some divine intervention in the absence of any significant legal recourse or reciprocity. Sonically the song builds on the futuristic electronic space pioneered in ÌFÉ’s previous work, fusing Afro-Cuban percussion and “call and response” with Electronica, Dancehall, Jazz and Hip Hop as a live electronic performance unlike any other.
